What does it take to become a Certificated Private Pilot-Airplane Single Engine Land?
FAA regulates pilot certifications in the United States, found in Title 14 - Part 61.103 of the Code of Federal Regulations.
Sec. 61.103- Eligibility requirements:....paraphrased. To be eligible for a private pilot certificate, a person must: 1) Be at least 17 years of age to earn the certificate; a person can solo at 16, but you can start flight training at any age! YES ANY AGE! 2) Be able to read, speak, write, and understand the English language. 3) Pass a FAA aeronautical knowledge test areas listed in Sec. 61.105(b) 4) Receive flight training and a logbook endorsement from an authorized instructor; Must include at least 40 hrs total time, with at least 20 hrs of instruction, and 10 solo hrs. National average is about 60 hrs total time. 5) Pass a FAA practical flight test.
